Athlete Development Program
Calling all youth skiers!
You are invited to join Kawartha Nordic's Athlete Development Program (ADP).
This is a program focused on classic and freestyle Nordic skiing training and racing.
There is a fee attached to this program and an expectation that skiers will represent KNSC at at a series of Nordic ski races this season. The base fee for A.D.P. this season is $80.00. Additional fees will be necessary to cover the costs of race registrations, transportation, and Kawartha team clothing. Participants should bring their own ski equipment, snacks and drinks, and appropriate clothing to training sessions.
What is ADP?
Six years ago we began KNSC's Jackrabbit/Track Attack program and we're now seeing these young skiers in need of another opportunity. Your coaches recognize this and have developed a program that brings together a team of youth skiers aged 13-18 who will ski as part of a KNSC Athlete Development Program. These skiers will train and have fun together and represent KNSC at a series of races as Midget, Juvenile, and Junior Nordic athletes. Your coaches have volunteered to facilitate some great Nordic experiences for these skier athletes while also maintaining a community of young athletes throughout the year that share a passion for Nordic skiing. Please note: athletes will be coached in the Classic and Freestyle techniques of Nordic skiing.
Time and Location:
Training sessions will normally take place on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm at Kawartha Nordic Ski Club and Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 7pm to 8pm at sites such as Nicholls Oval Park, Jackson Park, or Armour Hill. We intend to travel and participate in a number of Nordic ski races and events. Please see the calendar below for more detail.
Who is part of ADP?
Any Youth skiers aged 12-18 who are KNSC members are invited to participate in this program. Kawartha Nordic is also trying to support high school skiing in the region. High school skiers are more than welcome to join.
Your coaches are Jon Grimwood, Monica Gillespie, Mike Nevills, Rachel Herron and a number of other guest and community coaches will also be involved. All coaches are certified Nordic ski coaches, long-time club members, and skier athletes.
Expectations:
- We ask that athletes and parents commit to being part of the community of Nordic skiers at Kawartha Nordic Ski Club.
- We ask that athletes attend as many training sessions as possible with an emphasis on attending Saturday sessions.
- We ask that athletes make a commitment to participating in races and events.
- We ask that athletes always come prepared with proper equipment, clothing, and a positive attitude towards skiing.
