Night skiing safety

Postby bigsky » 08 Dec 2010, 10:42

I have enjoyed night skiing (with headlamp) the last few years, usually solo. Last year I saw a couple of fresh dear kills on the trails and it has me wondering whether I should be concerned skiing solo at night. I assume the kills are from wolves or coyotes. I know they are unlikely to hunt an adult male but they are clearly hunting the trails because the deer use them and I am concerned about ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Should I carry bear spray or take any other measures (not firearms)? Any thoughts from the trail crews (who work the trails at night), or wildlife experts?
