07 Oct 2023 … 01 Mar 2024

Volunteer Time is Starting!

Kawartha Nordic is a non-profit ski club with a few dedicated staff, but largely maintained and operated by volunteers. This means that we would love to have you help with the club's activities.

Please consider signing up for the below stated volunteer opportunities through our KN ivolunteer platform.

Fall Trail  and  Opening  Prep

There is always lots of work to be completed around the buildings and on the trails at Kawartha Nordic in the fall. Tasks include:
  • firewood cut , chopped, split and dispersed to piles
  • Trails cleared of debris, deadfall, rocks and trimmed back
  • Touch up paint jobs
  • Building area grass mowed
With sign up dates starting as early as October 7th, visit the KN ivolunteer sight to choose a suitable task and date for you to enjoy the fall weather at the club.

Volunteer Today!

Cabin Keepers

Kawartha Nordic has maintained, over the years, a dedicated group of volunteers known as the Cabin Keepers. These hard working individuals take a weekend shift or two during the ski season to complete the tasks required to run the Woodfine lodge, including;
  • Start and keep the lodge fires burning
  • keep the lodge clean
  • Stock up inside wood and kindling storage areas
  • Share site information and have an active presence with guests
  • Keep walkways and entrances free of snow and ice
  • Slip out for a ski
If you'd like to Cabin Keep for a day or two this winter please visit our ivolunteer sight above and choose your dates

Youth Programs

The Youth Program at Kawartha Nordic is very popular, with the main focus being fun on the snow, and increasing the love of cross country skiing. This program is for children ages 4-14, and has the largest number of participants. We need your help! It takes many volunteers to make this program happen.

The program runs for 2 hours in the morning (10am-12pm) and afternoon (1-3pm), for 8 weeks during January and February. Volunteer coaches attend a morning or afternoon session. Even if you can only attend a limited number of Saturdays, your assistance would be greatly appreciated and will allow us to continue offering this fun program for our children.

A vulnerable sector police check (VSC) or attestation is required, and task instructions are provided for you onsite the day(s) you volunteer. There will be some additional training, and forms, for all volunteers to complete this season and information will be supplied once board approval has been established. These additional steps are due to new and important policies that have been introduced by Nordiq Canada (via XCSO).

Please consider signing up through the KN ivolunteer platform.

Membership and Youth Program registration will open this year on October 10 at 7:00 pm. Updated information has been posted to our membership and program pages (Youth Programs, KN Ski Team, and Leadership Program) and you are encouraged to review ahead of registration.

Registration is completed online using our partner Zone4. Starting October 10 at 7pm start your registration below. We can't wait to welcome you for another ski season!

Race Volunteers Needed!

29 Jan 2023

Todd Harris

Kawartha Nordic has partnered with Lakefield College School to offer a number of races in the coming weeks, and we could really use your assistance.

Races are exciting to watch and even more exciting to be a part of. Most roles involve simple, clear tasks and no experience, plus training is provided.

If you might be interested, please check out our iVolunteer pages for more details on roles and shifts to see if this may work for you.

We also have two other upcoming races, if you would like to get some volunteer experience in advance of the OCup or OFSAA. These races don't have an iVolunteer sign-up as they are less formal and smaller events. Send a message to cscott@lcs.on.ca if you would like to join us for either or both.

  • LCS Invitational 8 Feb 2023 at Lakefield College School
  • CISAA/COSSA/LOSSA Championship 15 Feb 2023 at Kawartha Nordic

The two larger events are both sponsored by Wild Rock Outfitters, and include coffee, snacks and lunch for volunteers.

Please note that weather sometimes forces changes to race dates and schedules.

Carpooling to Kawartha Nordic

21 Jan 2023

Bruce Wurtele

To help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and our carbon footprint, Kawartha Nordic has setup a pilot carpooling website to help faciliate carpools to and from the club. This will also help alleviate pressure on the parking lot which can get very busy on weekends. Visit the carpooling page for more information!

*** Unfortunately the Full Moon Ski and Coffee House is cancelled on Feb 3 due to extreme cold. Stay tuned for updates if it can be rescheduled

Mark your calendar for the evening of Friday February 3rd!! Drop in for a ski after sunset in anticipation of the full Snow Moon. then gather in the Woodfine Lodge for an evening of music, performed by local musicians, to celebrate the moon.

This night is forcasted to be quite cold, -21C, so do dress appropriately. The lodge will be welcoming and warmed by our two woodstoves
